UGLY NECKLACE CONTEST II
Show off your mistakes in style by designing a piece to enter into our Ugly Necklace Contest II!
Some of the 2009 entries.
Contest Rules
- One entry per person/group.
- Your necklace must be 75% made up of beads.
- Beads are objects with holes in them. They made be made of glass, gemstone, wood, bone, polymer clay, metal, metal clay, plastic, resin, lucite, paper, or ceramic.
- These objects are made to slip over a stringing material. Stringing materials may be string, cable wire, fishing line, cotton, yarn, thread, or cord.
- Beads may be assembled into necklaces in many ways, including using bead stringing, bead weaving and/or wire-working techniques.
- Your necklace length must be between 16" and 30", from one end to the other. The "necklace" length is measured as the length of the circle going around the neck, and that assemblage of the piece which begins and ends with the two parts of the clasp assembly.
- Your necklace needs to be functional and wearable - it should not fall apart under normal handling, and it should not contain pieces/parts that could injure the wearer in any way.
- Use of food or food waste as part of your necklace will not be allowed.
The Spirit of the Rules
The idea of the contest is to take actual art/craft materials, attempt to ignore the standard rules of design, and make an ugly necklace. The idea is not to go outside, pick up 3 pieces of trash and some bird feathers, string them on a rope and call it a "necklace". If you need rules clarification, please contact me at uglynecklace@lushbeads.com. The owner of Lush Beads has final say as to whether or not a necklace is within the spirit of the rules.
